OET (OET-LV)And if whoever may_speak a_message against the son of_ the _Man, it_will_be_being_forgiven to_him, but whoever wishfully may_speak against the the holy spirit, it_˓will˒_ not _be_being_forgiven to_him, neither in this the age nor in the one coming.

OET (OET-RV)Anyone who speaks out against humanity’s child can be forgiven, but anyone who speaks out against the holy spirit won’t be forgiven either in this age or in the coming one.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

εἴπῃ λόγον

˓may˒_speak ˓a˒_word

Matthew is using the term word to mean something spoken in words. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [says anything]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person

τοῦ Υἱοῦ τοῦ Ἀνθρώπου

the Son ¬the ˱of˲_Man

Here Jesus speaks about himself in the third person. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use the first person. Alternate translation: [the Son of Man, that is, me]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

ἀφεθήσεται αὐτῷ & οὐκ ἀφεθήσεται αὐτῷ

˱it˲_˓will_be_being˒_forgiven ˱to˲_him & not ˱it˲_˓will_be_being˒_forgiven ˱to˲_him

If your language does not use these passive forms, you could express the ideas in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. If you need to say who does the actions, it is clear from the context that it is God. Alternate translation: [God will forgive him … God will not forgive him]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / gendernotations

(Occurrence -1) αὐτῷ

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Καί ὅς ἐάν εἴπῃ λόγον κατά τοῦ Υἱοῦ τοῦ Ἀνθρώπου ἀφεθήσεται αὐτῷ ὅς δʼ ἄν εἴπῃ κατά τοῦ Πνεύματος τοῦ Ἁγίου οὐκ ἀφεθήσεται αὐτῷ οὔτε ἐν τούτῳ τῷ αἰῶνι οὔτε ἐν τῷ μέλλοντι)

Although the terms him and him are masculine, Jesus is using the words in a generic sense that includes both men and women. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use phrases that make this clear. Alternate translation: [that person … that person]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

ἐν τούτῳ τῷ αἰῶνι οὔτε ἐν τῷ μέλλοντι

in this the age nor in the_‹one› coming

Here, the phrase this age refers to the time before God judges everyone and renews the world, and the phrase the one coming refers to the time after God judges everyone and renews the world. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use comparable phrases or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [in this life, nor in the life to come] or [before God judges everyone, nor after God judges everyone] or [now nor ever]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

12:32 One may stumble over Jesus’ mysterious revelation of himself as Son of Man and be forgiven, but one cannot be forgiven for attributing the work of the Spirit to Satan. The present-day analogy is the outright rejection of the conviction of the Holy Spirit concerning Christ—that is, the ultimate rejection of the Good News by an unbeliever (cp. Heb 6:4-6; 1 Jn 5:16-21).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The SR Greek text, lemmas, morphology, and VLT gloss are all thanks to the CNTR.
