OET (OET-LV)Not pushed_away the god the people of_him, whom he_foreknew.
Or not you_all_have_known in Aʸlias/(ʼĒliyyāh) what is_saying the scripture, how he_is_pleading the with_god against the Israaʸl/(Yisrāʼēl)?

OET (OET-RV)No, God didn’t push away his people that he knew before he chose them. Or don’t you know what Eliyah wrote when he pleaded with God to deal with Israel:

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

τὸν λαὸν αὐτο

the people (Some words not found in SR-GNT: οὐκ ἀπώσατο ὁ Θεὸς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ὃν προέγνω ἢ οὐκ οἴδατε ἐν Ἠλίᾳ τί λέγει ἡ Γραφή ὡς ἐντυγχάνει τῷ Θεῷ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ)

See how you translated this phrase in the previous verse.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / distinguish

ὃν προέγνω

whom ˱he˲_foreknew

This phrase gives further information about God’s people. If it might be helpful in your language, you could make the relationship between these phrases clearer. Alternate translation: “the people whom he foreknew”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

προέγνω

˱he˲_foreknew

See how you translated this phrase in 8:29.

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

ἢ οὐκ οἴδατε ἐν Ἠλείᾳ τί λέγει ἡ Γραφή, ὡς ἐντυγχάνει τῷ Θεῷ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ?

or not ˱you_all˲_/have/_known in (Some words not found in SR-GNT: οὐκ ἀπώσατο ὁ Θεὸς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ὃν προέγνω ἢ οὐκ οἴδατε ἐν Ἠλίᾳ τί λέγει ἡ Γραφή ὡς ἐντυγχάνει τῷ Θεῷ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ)

Paul is not asking for information, but is using the question form here to emphasize the truth of what he is saying. If you would not use a rhetorical question for this purpose in your language, you could translate his words as a statement or an exclamation and communicate the emphasis in another way. Alternate translation: “And surely you know what the scripture says about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel!”

Note 5 topic: writing-quotations

ἢ οὐκ οἴδατε ἐν Ἠλείᾳ τί λέγει ἡ Γραφή, ὡς ἐντυγχάνει τῷ Θεῷ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ?

or not ˱you_all˲_/have/_known in (Some words not found in SR-GNT: οὐκ ἀπώσατο ὁ Θεὸς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ὃν προέγνω ἢ οὐκ οἴδατε ἐν Ἠλίᾳ τί λέγει ἡ Γραφή ὡς ἐντυγχάνει τῷ Θεῷ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ)

This sentence indicates that what follows in the next verse is a quotation from an Old Testament book (1 Kings 19:10, 14). If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a comparable phrase that indicates that Paul is quoting from an important text. Alternate translation: “Or do you not know what the scripture says about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel? He says in the scriptures,”

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / personification

τί λέγει ἡ Γραφή

what /is/_saying the Scripture

See how you translated the scripture says in 10:11.

Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / pastforfuture

λέγει & ἐντυγχάνει

/is/_saying & ˱he˲_/is/_pleading

Here Paul uses the present tense verbs says and pleads to refer to something that happened in the past. If it would not be natural to do that in your language, you could use the past tense in your translation. Alternate translation: “said … he pleaded”

Note 8 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

Ἰσραήλ

Israel

See how you translated Israel in 10:19.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

11:2 chose from the very beginning: Before the people of Israel could do anything to earn their status, God selected them to be his people based on his grace alone.
• Elijah the prophet: In 1 Kgs 19:1-18, the apostate King Ahab had slaughtered many of the Lord’s prophets, and Ahab’s wife Jezebel threatened Elijah with the same fate. Elijah fled to the wilderness, where he bemoaned his fate. God responded with the assurance that many faithful people remained. Paul found the present situation to be somewhat parallel. While many Jews did not believe, and some were even hostile, God was (and is) still working to preserve a believing remnant.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The SR Greek text, lemmas, morphology, and VLT gloss are all thanks to the SR-GNT.
