In this section, Paul asked his readers if God has rejected the Jews forever. He answered his own question, indicating that God has not. At that time many Jews rejected Jesus as the Christ/Messiah. As a result, God made the message about Jesus known to people who were not Jews. But God will one day include the Jews and save them through Jesus too.
Paul then spoke directly to the believers who were not Jews. He said that he boasted about his ministry to the non-Jews so as to make the Jews jealous of the results of his ministry among the Gentiles. Then maybe some would be curious and begin believing in Jesus. When God accepts their faith in Jesus, it will be like they rose from the dead.
Paul then used some metaphors to illustrate his point that God has not rejected forever the Jews who, at that time, did not believe in Jesus as the Christ. He showed that if some Jews were holy, then all were, in the same way that a part of a batch of dough represents the whole batch. And the branches of a tree that is holy are themselves holy, even if they have been broken off to allow branches from a different tree to be joined into the trunk. He used the picture of the branches of that different tree to represent the believers who were not Jews.
He reminded the believers who were not Jews of God’s kindness toward them. He told them to always be mindful of that kindness rather than being proud of themselves. He warned them that God is able to do to them as he did to the Jews who do not believe in Jesus, if they became proud of themselves.

The Greek of 11:13a begins with a word that is often translated as “but” and “and.”There is a textual issue in 11:13a: (1) Some Greek manuscripts have the word and/but (BSB, RSV, NIV, GNT, NJB, NASB, NABRE, ESV, REB, NLT, GW, NET, NCV). (2) Some later Greek manuscripts have the word for (KJV only). It is recommended that you follow option (1). The BSB has not translated this word. Here the word introduces another thing that Paul wanted to say. For example:

I am speaking to you Gentiles: In the Greek, the word you is emphasized. Here are some ways to translate the emphasis:
You Gentiles, I speak to you
It is to you Gentiles that I am speaking
I am speaking: This clause refers to what Paul had been saying and what he said next. See the above examples.
speaking: The Roman believers read this letter. So in some languages the word “writing” would be more natural here.
Gentiles: Paul implied here believers who are not Jews. In some languages a literal translation would indicate or imply people who do not believe in Jesus. If that is true in your language, indicate the correct meaning. For example:

believers who are not Jews
Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles,
So/Then, as far as I am an apostle whom God sent to Gentiles,

It is recommended that you follow interpretation (1), because the Greek lexicons do not support interpretation (2).
the apostle: The Greek does not have the word that the BSB has translated as the. There are two ways to interpret this:
It indicates that the word an should be added in English. For example:
an apostle (ESV) (RSV, GNT, NJB, NASB, ESV, GW, CEV, NET, REB, NCV)
It implies that the word the should be added in English. For example:
the apostle (NIV) (BSB, NIV, KJV, NLT, NABRE)
It is recommended that you follow interpretation (1), because it is unlikely that Paul claimed to be the only apostle to Gentiles, as interpretation (2) implies.
apostle: The Greek word that the BSB translates as apostle means a “representative” or “messenger.” God chose Paul and sent him to tell the gospel about Jesus. See how you translated this word in 1:1.
to the Gentiles: This phrase indicates that Paul had a ministry as an apostle with people who were not Jews.

magnify: The Greek word here is often translated “glorify.” Paul told others that his ministry is important. He boasted about it. Here are other ways to translate this word:

ministry: The Greek word here refers to the work of helping others. It refers to Paul being an apostle, not another work of his. Paul’s work as an apostle helped others. Here are other ways to translate this word:

11:13-14 you Gentiles: Paul addresses the Gentile Christians in Rome with the practical goal of rebuking them for thinking too highly of themselves (11:20), especially in relation to their Jewish brothers and sisters. He shows that their enjoyment of salvation depends entirely on God’s kindness (11:22) and that God’s final goal is to stimulate repentance among the Jews (11:23).
• I stress this: Paul devoted himself to the conversion of Gentiles because he knew that their salvation would ultimately lead to salvation for Jews as well.
