If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the action that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [Since Yahweh was pleased to make you into a people for himself, because of his great name, Yahweh will not forsake his people]

Samuel is using the term name to represent Yahweh’s reputation. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. (However, be sure it is clear in your translation that Samuel is not saying that Yahweh is motivated by what people think of him and that he tries to do what makes a good impression on people. He means that Yahweh has a well-deserved reputation for being a faithful God, and they can be sure he will live up to it by not abandoning them.) Alternate translation: [his great reputation]

OET (OET-RV) Yahweh won’t abandon his people because he has an excellent reputation to uphold, especially since he’s declared you all to be his people.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
