uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

הִנֵּ֛ה

see/lo/see!

See how you translated the term Behold in [2:31](../02/31.md), and consider how you would translate it in this context. Alternate translation: [All right]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

הָאֲנָשִׁ֑ים

the,men

The author assumes that readers will understand that by the men Jonathan means the Philistine soldiers in the detachment opposite them. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [those Philistine soldiers]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

14:1-52 Saul’s behavior in this chapter further justifies his dismissal as king (13:8-14; see also ch 15). Saul was alienated from both Samuel and his heroic son Jonathan. Chapter 14 anticipates the significant role that Jonathan played in the transition from Saul’s kingship to David’s.
