OET (OET-LV) And_now he_has_died to/for_what this am_I fasting am_I_able to_bring_him_back again I will_be_going to_him/it and_he not he_will_return to_me.
OET (OET-RV) But now that he’s dead, there’s no more reason to fast—I can’t bring him back again. One day I’ll go to him, but he’ll never come back here to me.”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion
לָ֤מָּה זֶּה֙ אֲנִ֣י צָ֔ם הַאוּכַ֥ל לַהֲשִׁיב֖וֹ ע֑וֹד
(Some words not found in UHB: and=now dead to/for=what then I fast am,I_able? to,bring,him_back again/more I go to=him/it and=he not return to,me )
David is using the question form to emphasize that there is no reason to continue fasting since he cannot bring his son back to life. If a speaker of your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate these questions as statements or as exclamations. Alternate translation: [I have no reason to fast any longer. I am not able to bring him back again.]
Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns
וְה֖וּא לֹֽא־יָשׁ֥וּב
and=he not return
See how you translated the similar expression “you, you know” in [17:20](../17/20.md). Alternate translation: [but he, for his part, will not return]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
