uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / reduplication

בְּנִ֣י בְנִ֣י אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם

(bəniy ⱱəniy ʼaⱱshālōm)

David repeats the words my son to show how deeply distressed he is about his son’s death. If it would be more natural in your language, you could express his deep distress in another way. Alternate translation: [Oh, my son Absalom]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

מִֽי־יִתֵּ֤ן מוּתִי֙ אֲנִ֣י תַחְתֶּ֔יךָ

(miy-yittēn mūtiy ʼₐniy taḩteykā)

The phrase Who will give my dying myself in place of you was a common expression meaning “I wish that I had died instead of you.” It is a way of expressing deep grief and regret. Alternate translation: [If only I had been the one who had died, not you]
