OET (OET-RV) But the people complained, “No, don’t go out, because if we have to flee, they won’t be worried about us. Even if half of us die, they won’t be worried about us, because you count more to them than ten thousand of us. So it’s better that you stay to help us from the city.”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / reduplication
אִם־נֹ֨ס נָנ֜וּס
if to_flee flee
The soldiers are repeating forms of the verb flee in order to intensify their expression of the idea that it conveys. If your language can repeat words for intensification, it would be appropriate to do that here in your translation. If not, your language may have another way of expressing the intensification. Alternate translation: [if in fact we flee]

A half means one part out of two equal parts. Represent this in the way your language and culture characteristically would.

The Septuagint (an ancient Greek translation) reads “you” instead of now. This reflects a difference of only one letter in Hebrew, and it gives the meaning, “For you are worth ten thousand of us.” That may have been the original reading, since it does not require the reader to supply the rest of the thought (as the traditional Hebrew text requires, “but there is only one like you”). If a translation of the Bible exists in your region, you may wish to use the reading that it uses. If a translation of the Bible does not exist in your region, you may wish to use the reading of the ULT.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
