The soldier is using stationed yourself from before me as a common expression of his culture to mean “kept your distance” or “would not have defended me.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [and you would have kept your distance from me] or [and you would not have defended me]
