TSNTyndale Study Notes:

13:1-18 Prophets who tried to lead Israel away from the one true God were guilty of treason, which carried the death penalty. No other religion insisted on exclusive worship of their national gods; consequently, such harsh penalties for the worship of competing deities were unknown elsewhere in the ancient Near East.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / reduplication

הַכֵּ֣ה תַכֶּ֗ה

(Some words not found in UHB: and,inquire and,investigate and,interrogate thoroughly and=see/lo/see! true established the,charge done the,detestable_thing the,this in/on/at/with,midst,you )

The speaker is repeating the verb strike in order to intensify the idea that it expresses. If your language can repeat words for intensification, it would be appropriate to do that here in your translation. If not, your language may have another way of expressing the emphasis. Alternate translation: “you shall surely strike”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

לְפִי & לְפִי

(Some words not found in UHB: and,inquire and,investigate and,interrogate thoroughly and=see/lo/see! true established the,charge done the,detestable_thing the,this in/on/at/with,midst,you )

Here, mouth means “edge.” If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “with the edge of … with the edge of”

Note 3 topic: writing-pronouns

אֹתָ֧הּ & בְּהֶמְתָּ֖הּ

(Some words not found in UHB: and,inquire and,investigate and,interrogate thoroughly and=see/lo/see! true established the,charge done the,detestable_thing the,this in/on/at/with,midst,you )

The pronoun it refers to the “city.” If this is not clear for your readers, you could repeat the word. Alternate translation: “that city … the livestock in the city”
