διῆλθον & τὴν Φρυγίαν καὶ Γαλατικὴν χώραν, κωλυθέντες ὑπὸ τοῦ Ἁγίου Πνεύματος λαλῆσαι τὸν λόγον ἐν τῇ Ἀσίᾳ
˱they˲_passed_through & ¬the Phrygia and /the/_Galatian region /having_been/_forbidden by the Holy Spirit /to/_speak the word in ¬the Asia
If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia, they went through Phrygia and the Galatian region]
Note 2 topic: translate-names
τὴν Φρυγίαν & Γαλατικὴν χώραν & τῇ Ἀσίᾳ
¬the Phrygia & /the/_Galatian region & ¬the Asia
The word Phrygia is the name of a region in northwestern Asia Minor. See how you translated this name in 2:10. The word Galatian describes the region of Galatia in central Asia Minor. The word Asia is the name of a Roman province in western Asia Minor.
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / events
τὴν Φρυγίαν καὶ Γαλατικὴν χώραν
¬the Phrygia and /the/_Galatian region
Paul, Silas, and Timothy actually had to go through Galatia in order to reach Phrygia, so it might be more natural to put the information about Galatia first. Alternate translation: [the Galatian region and Phrygia]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
κωλυθέντες ὑπὸ τοῦ Ἁγίου Πνεύματος
/having_been/_forbidden by the Holy Spirit
If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [because the Holy Spirit had forbidden them] or [because the Holy Spirit did not permit them]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / extrainfo
κωλυθέντες ὑπὸ τοῦ Ἁγίου Πνεύματος
/having_been/_forbidden by the Holy Spirit
Since Luke explains shortly after this that the Holy Spirit actually wanted Paul, Silas, and Timothy to share the good news about Jesus in two other regions, you do not need to explain here why the Holy Spirit forbade them to share the good news at this time in the province of Asia.
Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
τὸν λόγον
the word
Luke is using the term word to mean the message that God wanted the believers to share by using words. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [the message about Jesus]
16:6-10 God directed the missionaries’ travels: The Holy Spirit had prevented them from proceeding westward into the province of Asia, the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to go north to Bithynia, and then Paul had a vision calling them to go northwest over the Aegean Sea to Macedonia. God’s Spirit guided his servants in Acts in a variety of ways, including divine visions (see also 9:10; 10:9-16; 22:18), direct intuition (cp. 8:29, 39; 10:19; 20:22), counsel with other believers (cp. 15:29), guidance through prayer (13:2, 4), insight through Scripture (28:25-27), and prophecy (11:28). Guidance by the indwelling Holy Spirit helped them to accomplish their mission to be Christ’s witnesses (1:8; see also 4:8, 31; 11:24; 13:9).
OET (OET-LV) And they_passed_through the Frugia and the_Galatikos region, having_been_forbidden by the holy spirit to_speak the message in the Asia,
OET (OET-RV) From there, they travelled through Phrygia and the Galatia region, after the holy spirit prevented them from proclaiming the message in Asia Minor.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
