Luke assumes that his readers will know that Greek men did not have their sons circumcised, and so the Jews would have known that Timothy had not been circumcised. As a result, they would have rejected Paul and Timothy before hearing their message about Christ. See the discussion of this in the introduction to this chapter. Alternate translation: [for they all knew that his father was a Greek and that he therefore had not been circumcised]
