OET (OET-LV) who having_come_down, they_prayed for them, so_that they_may_receive the_ holy _spirit.
Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns
οἵτινες καταβάντες, προσηύξαντο περὶ αὐτῶν
who /having/_come_down ˱they˲_prayed for them
The pronoun who stands for Peter and John, and the pronoun them stands for the Samaritans. It may be helpful to begin a new sentence here. Alternate translation: “When Peter and John had come down, they prayed for the Samaritans”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / youdual
οἵτινες
who
Since the pronoun who stands for two men, it should be in the dual if your language uses that form.
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
καταβάντες
/having/_come_down
Luke speaks of Philip having come down from Jerusalem because that was the customary way of speaking about traveling from Jerusalem, since that city is up on a mountain. Alternate translation: “having traveled from Jerusalem”
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / go
καταβάντες
/having/_come_down
Your language may say “gone” rather than come in contexts such as this. Use whichever is more natural. Alternate translation: “having gone down”
8:9-24 Simon the sorcerer was a showman, dazzling the people of Samaria and making self-exalting claims. Simon’s attempt to obtain spiritual power through payment gave the name simony to the later corrupt practice of buying and selling ordination to church leadership (cp. 1 Tim 6:9-10). Peter strongly rebuked Simon’s wickedness.
OET (OET-LV) who having_come_down, they_prayed for them, so_that they_may_receive the_ holy _spirit.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Greek words that they’re translated from.
