OET (OET-LV)Therefore repent of the this evil of_you, and be_besought of_the master if perhaps the intention of_the heart of_you will_be_being_forgiven to_you.

OET (OET-RV) You need to turn away from this evil desire and beg the master that maybe he’ll forgive you for your wrong intentions

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

ἀπὸ τῆς κακίας σου ταύτης

of ¬the evil ˱of˲_you this

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of wickedness, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: “for trying to buy God’s gift with money” or “for trying to bribe God”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

ἡ ἐπίνοια τῆς καρδίας σου

the intention ˱of˲_the heart ˱of˲_you

Here, the heart represents the thoughts and motives. Alternate translation: “what you intended to do” or “what you were thinking of doing”

Note 3 topic: grammar-connect-condition-fact

δεήθητι τοῦ Κυρίου, εἰ ἄρα ἀφεθήσεταί σοι ἡ ἐπίνοια τῆς καρδίας σου

/be/_besought ˱of˲_the Lord if perhaps /will_be_being/_forgiven ˱to˲_you the intention ˱of˲_the heart ˱of˲_you

Peter is using the conditional word if to introduce a desired result. There is actually no doubt about whether God will forgive someone who sincerely repents and prays for forgiveness. Alternate translation: “pray to the Lord so that, as a result, the intention of your heart will be forgiven to you” or “pray to the Lord and ask him to forgive you for the intention of your heart”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

ἀφεθήσεταί σοι ἡ ἐπίνοια τῆς καρδίας σου

/will_be_being/_forgiven ˱to˲_you the intention ˱of˲_the heart ˱of˲_you

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “he will forgive you for the intention of your heart”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

8:9-24 Simon the sorcerer was a showman, dazzling the people of Samaria and making self-exalting claims. Simon’s attempt to obtain spiritual power through payment gave the name simony to the later corrupt practice of buying and selling ordination to church leadership (cp. 1 Tim 6:9-10). Peter strongly rebuked Simon’s wickedness.
