OET (OET-LV)And he said:
For/Because how wishfully I_might_be_able if not someone will_be_guiding me?
And he_appealed the to_Filippos having_gone_up to_sit_down with him.

OET (OET-RV)“How could I know when I don’t have someone to guide me,” he answered, and so he invited Philip to climb up and sit with him.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

πῶς γὰρ ἂν δυναίμην ἐὰν μή τις ὁδηγήσει με?

how for ¬wishfully ˱I˲_/might_be/_able if not someone /will_be/_guiding me

The man is not asking for information. He is using the question form for emphasis. If you would not use a rhetorical question for this purpose in your language, you could translate his words as a statement or an exclamation and communicate the emphasis in another way. Alternate translation: [No, I cannot understand unless someone guides me.]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

παρεκάλεσέν & τὸν Φίλιππον, ἀναβάντα καθίσαι σὺν αὐτῷ

˱he˲_appealed & ¬the ˱to˲_Philip /having/_gone_up /to/_sit_down with him

The implication is that when the man invited Philip to come up and sit with him, Philip agreed to travel down the road with him to explain the Scriptures. Alternate translation: [he invited Philip to come up and sit with him and explain the Scriptures, and Philip accepted the invitation]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

8:26-40 Philip obeyed the Holy Spirit’s leading and then seized the opportunity to share the message of Good News with a eunuch on the desert road . . . from Jerusalem to Gaza. This incident shows Philip’s remarkable effectiveness as a Christian apologist and evangelist in his outreach for Christ and in his commitment to bringing the Good News to all people regardless of social class or ethnicity.

OET (OET-LV)And he said:

OET (OET-RV)“How could I know when I don’t have someone to guide me,” he answered, and so he invited Philip to climb up and sit with him.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
