מִכּ֥וּר הַבַּרְזֶ֖ל מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם
of,furnace_of the,iron out_of,Egypt
An iron furnace is very hot; people use it to melt iron. Moses speaks as if the sufferings of the Israelites in Egypt were so severe that it was like being in an iron furnace; the Israelites were the iron inside the furnace. Alternate translation: [out of Egypt where the Egyptians severely oppressed you]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
ל֛וֹ לְעַ֥ם נַחֲלָ֖ה
to=him/it as,people_of inheritance
Moses speaks of all the people of Israel as if they were one object, Yahweh’s inheritance. Moses means that Yahweh chose to have a special relationship with Israel. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [his chosen people]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
כַּיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה
as_the,day the,this
The implication is that the Israelites still have a special relationship with Yahweh at the time when Moses is giving this speech to them. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [as you are this day as I speak to you]
4:20 An iron-smelting furnace was used to refine metal ores and separate the pure metal from the dross. Israel’s trials in Egypt made the Israelites more spiritually and morally pure.
• special possession (literally people of inheritance): Israel itself was God’s inheritance. This concept is confirmed by the parallel phrase describing Israel as his very own people. As such, the Israelites were now fit to enter, conquer, and occupy the land (cp. 1 Pet 2:9-12).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
