בָּנִים֙ וּבְנֵ֣י בָנִ֔ים
sons and=the_sons children
Although the term sons is masculine, Moses is using the word here in a generic sense that includes both male and female descendants. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [children, and children of children]
Note 2 topic: translate-kinship
וּבְנֵ֣י בָנִ֔ים
and=the_sons children
See how you translated the phrase “sons of your sons” in [4:9](../04/09.md). Alternate translation: [and they have sons] or [and they beget grandchildren for you]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / hypo
וְהִשְׁחַתֶּ֗ם
and,act_corruptly
Moses is suggesting that this is a hypothetical condition, that Yahweh will only become angry and punish the Israelites if the Israelites sin by making an idol. Use a natural form in your language for introducing a situation that could happen. Alternate translation: [and if you act corruptly]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
וְהִשְׁחַתֶּ֗ם
and,act_corruptly
See how you translated the words *act corruptly in [Joshua 4:16](../04/16.md). Alternate translation: [and you sin]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
בְּעֵינֵ֥י
in/on=both_eyes_of
Moses is using the term eyes by association to mean sight. Sight, in turn, represents judgment and perspective. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. See the Introduction to Deuteronomy for a discussion of the phrase “in the eyes of.” Alternate translation: [in the evaluation of] or [in the perspective of]
4:1-40 Moses’ lengthy exhortation to the Israelite community was based on the people’s recent failures and his anticipation of what lay ahead in Canaan.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
