uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וַֽיַּעֲמֹד֙ רַב־שָׁקֵ֔ה

(Some words not found in UHB: and,he_stood great//chief/captain שָׁקֵה and=he/it_called with,a_voice big/great in_Hebrew and=he/it_spoke and=he/it_said hear message/matter_of the=king (the),great king ʼAshshūr )

The author probably does not mean that the Rabshakeh had been sitting down and having a private conversation with the Judean officials and that he then stood up. If the conversation had been private, there would have been no need for Eliakim to ask him to speak in Aramaic so that the people on the wall would not understand. So the author probably means that the Rabshakeh stood in such a way that his speech to the people on the wall would seem even more forceful and intimidating. Alternate translation: [And the Rabshakeh assumed a dominating stance]

Note 2 topic: writing-quotations

וַיֹּ֔אמֶר
