OET (OET-LV)The one receiving a_prophet in name of_a_prophet, will_be_receiving the_reward of_a_prophet, and the one receiving a_righteous one in the_name of_a_righteous one, will_be_receiving the_reward of_a_righteous one.

OET (OET-RV)Anyone who accepts a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive the reward of a prophet, and anyone who accepts a godly person in the name of a godly person will receive the reward of a godly person.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-proverbs

ὁ δεχόμενος προφήτην εἰς ὄνομα προφήτου, μισθὸν προφήτου λήμψεται; καὶ ὁ δεχόμενος δίκαιον εἰς ὄνομα δικαίου, μισθὸν δικαίου λήμψεται

the_‹one› receiving (Some words not found in SR-GNT: Ὁ δεχόμενος προφήτην εἰς ὄνομα προφήτου μισθόν προφήτου λήμψεται καί ὁ δεχόμενος δίκαιον εἰς ὄνομα δικαίου μισθόν δικαίου λήμψεται)

Jesus uses or invents two similar proverbs in order to teach that people who help others who are serving God will be rewarded in a fitting way. Translate these proverbs in a way that will be recognized as proverbs and be meaningful in your language and culture. Alternate translation: [If you receive a prophet in the name of a prophet, you will receive the reward of a prophet. If you receive a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, you will receive the reward of a righteous man]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

εἰς ὄνομα προφήτου & εἰς ὄνομα δικαίου

in name ˱of˲_˓a˒_prophet & in ˓the˒_name ˱of˲_˓a˒_righteous_‹one›

Here, the phrase in the name of indicates that the reason for receiving a person is the recognition or knowledge that the person being received is a prophet or righteous man. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a comparable phrase or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [with the knowledge that he is a prophet … with the knowledge that he is a righteous man] or [because he is a prophet … because he is a righteous man]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

μισθὸν προφήτου & μισθὸν δικαίου

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Ὁ δεχόμενος προφήτην εἰς ὄνομα προφήτου μισθόν προφήτου λήμψεται καί ὁ δεχόμενος δίκαιον εἰς ὄνομα δικαίου μισθόν δικαίου λήμψεται)

Jesus could be using the possessive form to indicate that a person receives: (1) the same reward that a prophet or righteous person receives from God. Alternate translation: [the same reward that a prophet receives … the same reward that a righteous man receives] (2) the reward that a prophet or righteous person gives. Alternate translation: [a reward from a prophet … a reward from a righteous man]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / gendernotations

δίκαιον & δικαίου & δικαίου

˓a˒_righteous_‹one› & ˱of˲_˓a˒_righteous_‹one› & ˱of˲_˓a˒_righteous_‹one›

Although the term righteous man is masculine, Jesus is using the word in a generic sense that includes both men and women. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a phrase that makes this clear. Alternate translation: [a righteous person … of a righteous person … of a righteous person]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

10:41 The same reward as a prophet (literally A prophet’s reward) means either the same reward a prophet would receive or the benefit of the prophet’s ministry.
• Righteous people are those who conform their behavior to God’s law as taught by both John the Baptist (21:32) and Jesus (see 3:15), and therefore are approved by God (13:43, 49; 25:37-46).
