OET (OET-RV) “Do what you think’s best,” her husband replied. “Stay until you’ve weaned him. May Yahweh do whatever he said to you.” So she stayed behind and breastfed her son until she eventually weaned him.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
Do the good in your eyes
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said to/for=her/it ʼElqānāh her/its=husband/man do the,best in/on/at/with,eyes_of,you stay until weaned,you DOM=him/it only confirm YHWH DOM word_of,his and,remained the=woman and,nursed DOM son_of,her until weaned,she DOM=him/it )
If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of good, you could express the same idea in another way, such as by using “good” as an adjective. Alternate translation: “Do what seems good to you”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
may Yahweh raise up his word
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said to/for=her/it ʼElqānāh her/its=husband/man do the,best in/on/at/with,eyes_of,you stay until weaned,you DOM=him/it only confirm YHWH DOM word_of,his and,remained the=woman and,nursed DOM son_of,her until weaned,she DOM=him/it )
Elkanah is speaking as if Yahweh’s word were something that Yahweh could raise up, as if it were a building. He means that he wants Yahweh to fulfill what he has promised. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “may Yahweh fulfill what he has promised”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
may Yahweh raise up his word
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said to/for=her/it ʼElqānāh her/its=husband/man do the,best in/on/at/with,eyes_of,you stay until weaned,you DOM=him/it only confirm YHWH DOM word_of,his and,remained the=woman and,nursed DOM son_of,her until weaned,she DOM=him/it )
When Elkanah says his word, he implicitly means what Yahweh promised through Eli when Eli said to Hannah, “may the God of Israel grant your request.” You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: “may Yahweh fulfill what he promised through Eli”
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
his word
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said to/for=her/it ʼElqānāh her/its=husband/man do the,best in/on/at/with,eyes_of,you stay until weaned,you DOM=him/it only confirm YHWH DOM word_of,his and,remained the=woman and,nursed DOM son_of,her until weaned,she DOM=him/it )
The author is using the term word by association to mean what Yahweh promised by using words, speaking through Eli. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: “what he said”
1:23 Elkanah could have overridden Hannah’s promise (Num 30:12-14), but instead he affirmed and supported it.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
