Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

3:14-39 This first phase of a two-stage registration of the tribe of Levi (see 4:34-49 for stage two) summarized each family group’s special responsibilities (described in greater detail in 4:1-33). This numbering was not linked with military duties, so it enrolled male Levites from the age of one month (3:40-41).
• Three family groups are descended from Gershon, Kohath, and Merari, the three sons of Levi. These clans (often called the Gershonites, Kohathites, and Merarites) later inherited the “cities of refuge” (Josh 21) and filled various important posts in the Jerusalem Temple (2 Chr 29:3-17).
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
פְּקֻדֵיהֶם֙ & פְּקֻ֣דֵיהֶ֔ם
enrollment,their & numbered,who
If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. If you need to say who did the action, 3:16 indicates that Moses counted these men. Alternate translation: “Those whom Moses counted … those whom Moses counted”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo
פְּקֻדֵיהֶם֙ בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר כָּל־זָכָ֔ר מִבֶּן־חֹ֖דֶשׁ וָמָ֑עְלָה פְּקֻ֣דֵיהֶ֔ם שִׁבְעַ֥ת אֲלָפִ֖ים וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת
enrollment,their in/on/at/with,number all/each/any/every male from,son_of month and,more, numbered,who seven thousand and=five hundreds
Since the same idea of their counted ones is repeated later in the verse, the expression here is extra information that would be unnatural to express in some languages. If this is true of your language, you could remove the expression here. You may need to change the order of the clauses in the sentence. Alternate translation: “Their counted ones were 7,500 by the number of every male from a son of a month and upward”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
כָּל־זָכָ֔ר מִבֶּן־חֹ֖דֶשׁ וָמָ֑עְלָה

See how you translated this phrase in 3:15.
Note 4 topic: translate-numbers
שִׁבְעַ֥ת אֲלָפִ֖ים וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת
seven thousand and=five hundreds
Alternate translation: “were seventy-five hundred” or “were seven thousand five hundred”
