This is the first of many times in this book that sons of Israel refers to the Israelite nation or people. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [And the people of Israel] or [And the Israelites]

All of these verbs mean similar things; they are used together to emphasize that the Israelites became very numerous. Compare your translation of fruitful … and multiplied … and the land was filled here to [Genesis 1:28](../../gen/01/28.md), [9:1](../../gen/09/01.md), and [9:7](../../gen/09/07.md), and especially [Genesis 35:11](../../gen/35/11.md) where God renamed Jacob to be called Israel.
