OET (OET-LV)A_ evil and adulterous _generation is_seeking_after a_sign, and a_sign will_ not _be_being_given to_it, except not/lest the sign of_Yōnas/(Yōnāh).
And having_left them he_went_away.

OET (OET-RV)This is an evil and adulterous generation that’s wanting a sign, and no sign will be given to it except for the sign of Yonah. Then he left them and went away.

uW Translation Notes:

/a/_generation evil and adulterous /a/_sign /is/_seeking_after and /a/_sign not /will_be_being/_given ˱to˲_it except ¬not/lest the sign ˱of˲_Jonah

What Jesus says here is identical to what he said in 12:39 except for the phrase “the prophet” before the name Jonah. Translate this sentence as you did in 12:39.

Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns

αὐτοὺς

them

The pronoun them refers to the Pharisees and Sadducees who had asked for a sign (see 16:1). If this is not clear for your readers, you could refer to these people more directly. Alternate translation: “the people who asked him for a sign” or “those Pharisees and Sadducees”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

ἀπῆλθεν

˱he˲_went_away

Here Matthew implies that the disciples were traveling with Jesus. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make that idea more explicit. Alternate translation: “Jesus and his disciples went away”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

16:1-12 Having been warmly received in the Gentile world, Jesus returned to his fellow countrymen only to encounter further rejection.
