The pronoun them refers to the Pharisees and Sadducees who had asked for a sign (see [16:1](../16/01.md)). If this is not clear for your readers, you could refer to these people more directly. Alternate translation: [the people who asked him for a sign] or [those Pharisees and Sadducees]
