OET (OET-LV)Therefore be_watching, because you_all_have_ neither _known the day nor the hour.

OET (OET-RV)So then, be watchful because you all don’t know the day or the time.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

οὖν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: γρηγορεῖτε Οὖν ὅτι οὐκ οἴδατε τήν ἡμέραν οὐδέ τήν ὥραν)

The word Therefore introduces Jesus’ application of the parable he has given in [25:1–12](../25/01.md). If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a different word or phrase that introduces an application. Alternate translation: [Given that story] or [As what I have told you illustrates]

Note 2 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

γρηγορεῖτε & ὅτι οὐκ οἴδατε τὴν ἡμέραν, οὐδὲ τὴν ὥραν

˓be˒_watching & because neither ˱you_all˲_˓have˒_known (Some words not found in SR-GNT: γρηγορεῖτε Οὖν ὅτι οὐκ οἴδατε τήν ἡμέραν οὐδέ τήν ὥραν)

If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these clauses, since the second clause gives the reason for the command in the first clause. Alternate translation: [since you do not know the day nor the hour, be alert]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / doublet

τὴν ἡμέραν, οὐδὲ τὴν ὥραν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: γρηγορεῖτε Οὖν ὅτι οὐκ οἴδατε τήν ἡμέραν οὐδέ τήν ὥραν)

The terms day and hour mean similar things. Jesus is using the two terms together for emphasis. If it would be clearer for your readers, you could express the emphasis with a single phrase. Alternate translation: [the specific time]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

τὴν ἡμέραν, οὐδὲ τὴν ὥραν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: γρηγορεῖτε Οὖν ὅτι οὐκ οἴδατε τήν ἡμέραν οὐδέ τήν ὥραν)

Jesus is referring to the moment when he will return. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [the time of my coming] or [the moment in the future when I will return]

Note 5 topic: translate-textvariants

τὴν ὥραν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: γρηγορεῖτε Οὖν ὅτι οὐκ οἴδατε τήν ἡμέραν οὐδέ τήν ὥραν)

Many ancient manuscripts include nothing after the word hour. The ULT follows that reading. Other ancient manuscripts include after the word hour the words “in which the Son of Man comes.” If a translation of the Bible exists in your region, you may wish to use the reading that it uses. If a translation of the Bible does not exist in your region, you may wish to use the reading of the ULT.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

25:1-13 This parable reinforces the need for individuals to be watchful and to prepare for the return of Christ (25:13; see also Luke 12:35-36).

OET (OET-LV)Therefore be_watching, because you_all_have_ neither _known the day nor the hour.

OET (OET-RV)So then, be watchful because you all don’t know the day or the time.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
