OET (OET-LV)And the chief_priests having_taken the silver_coins said:

OET (OET-RV)The chief priests took the money and decided, “We can’t legally deposit the money to the temple treasury because it’s blood money.”

δὲ

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οἱ Δέ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τά ἀργύρια εἶπον Οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν αὐτά εἰς τόν κορβανᾶν ἐπεί τιμή αἵματος ἐστίν)

The word Now introduces the next thing that happened. It is not clear how soon the priests picked up the pieces of silver after Judas threw them. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a word or phrase that introduces the next action, or you could leave Now untranslated. Alternate translation: [Sometime after that,]

Note 2 topic: translate-bmoney

τὰ ἀργύρια

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οἱ Δέ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τά ἀργύρια εἶπον Οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν αὐτά εἰς τόν κορβανᾶν ἐπεί τιμή αἵματος ἐστίν)

See how you referred to these pieces of silver in [27:3](../27/03.md). Alternate translation: [the coins made out of silver] or [the money]

Note 3 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν κορβανᾶν, ἐπεὶ τιμὴ αἵματός ἐστιν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οἱ Δέ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τά ἀργύρια εἶπον Οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν αὐτά εἰς τόν κορβανᾶν ἐπεί τιμή αἵματος ἐστίν)

If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these clauses, since the second clause gives the reason for the result that the first clause describes. Alternate translation: [Because it is the price of blood, it is not lawful to put them into the treasury]

Note 4 topic: translate-unknown

τὸν κορβανᾶν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οἱ Δέ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τά ἀργύρια εἶπον Οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν αὐτά εἰς τόν κορβανᾶν ἐπεί τιμή αἵματος ἐστίν)

The word treasury refers to the place in the temple where the money that people gave to help maintain the temple and the sacrifices was kept. If your readers would not be familiar with a treasury for a temple, you could use the name of something similar in your area or you could use a more general term. Alternate translation: [the place where we keep the money designated for the temple] or [the storage area with the rest of the temple money]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

τιμὴ αἵματός

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οἱ Δέ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τά ἀργύρια εἶπον Οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν αὐτά εἰς τόν κορβανᾶν ἐπεί τιμή αἵματος ἐστίν)

The chief priests are using the possessive form to describe a price that is paid for blood. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a different expression. Alternate translation: [the price that was paid for blood]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

αἵματός

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: οἱ Δέ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τά ἀργύρια εἶπον Οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν αὐτά εἰς τόν κορβανᾶν ἐπεί τιμή αἵματος ἐστίν)

Here, blood refers to the death of a person. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a comparable phrase or state the meaning plainly. See how you expressed the idea in [27:4](../27/04.md). Alternate translation: [of a person’s death] or [of a man dying]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

27:3-10 There are two accounts of Judas’s death—this one and Acts 1:18-19. There are differences between the two: (1) Matthew states that the priests bought the field (Matt 27:6-7), while Acts seems to suggest that Judas bought it (Acts 1:18); (2) Matthew reports that Judas committed suicide by hanging himself (Matt 27:5), while Acts enigmatically refers to a fall and an abdominal rupture (Acts 1:18); (3) Matthew implies that the field of blood was so named because it became a place of burial (Matt 27:7-8), while Acts suggests that it was because of Judas’s violent death there (Acts 1:19). The two accounts are compatible if one takes the account in Acts as describing the effects of the actions described in Matthew.
