uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

make me safe in your righteousness

(Some words not found in UHB: in/on/at/with,righteousness_of,your rescue,me and,deliver,me incline to=me ear_of,your and,save,me )

This could mean: (1) “make me safe because you always do what is right” or (2) “make me safe as I do what you want me to do”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

turn your ear to me

(Some words not found in UHB: in/on/at/with,righteousness_of,your rescue,me and,deliver,me incline to=me ear_of,your and,save,me )

Here “your ear” refers to God’s willingness to hear someone who prays to him. See how this is translated in Psalms 17:6. Alternate translation: “pay attention to me”

save me

(Some words not found in UHB: in/on/at/with,righteousness_of,your rescue,me and,deliver,me incline to=me ear_of,your and,save,me )

Alternate translation: “keep me safe”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

Ps 71 This untitled lament by an aging believer is more of a confession of confidence and hope than the cry of someone abandoned by God. The psalmist experienced God’s power and protection in his youth (71:5-8) and now prays for rescue from the adversaries who stalk him in his old age (71:9-13). Even in the midst of his peril, he continues to tell of God’s past faithfulness and looks forward with hope to a time when he can testify to the next generation that God is faithful and righteous.
