OET (OET-LV) And_ ʼAⱱīshālōm _he/it_said to Yōʼāⱱ HERE I_sent to_you to_say come here so_that_I_may_send you[fn] to the_king to_say to/for_what have_I_come from_Gəshūr was_good to_me still I was_there and_now let_me_see the_face_of the_king and_if there_is in_me iniquity and_he_will_kill_me.
14:32 OSHB note: We read one or more accents in L differently than BHS. Often this notation indicates a typographical error in BHS.
OET (OET-RV) “Listen, I tried to contact you,” Abshalom replied. “I asked you to come here so that I could send you to the king to ask what the point was of bringing me here from Geshur if I can’t see him—I might as well have stayed back there. So now, help me to get invited to see the king, and then if I’m considered guilty of a crime, then let him kill me.”

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said ʼAⱱīshālōm to/towards Yōʼāⱱ/(Joab) see/lo/see! sent to,you to=say come they(f) so,that_I_may_send ,you to/towards the=king to=say to/for=what come from,Geshur good to=me still I there and=now see face/surface_of the=king and=if there_is in,me guilt and,he,will_kill_me )
There are three levels of quotation here. The author is quoting what Absalom said (level 1). Absalom is quoting what he sent his messengers to tell Joab on his behalf (level 2). And as he quotes their message, Absalom quotes what the messengers told Joab to say to King David on his behalf (level 3). Use the appropriate punctuation in your language to mark these levels of quotation. Alternatively, you could translate this so that there is not a second-level or third-level quotation (see the Quotes within Quotes note).
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / quotesinquotes
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said ʼAⱱīshālōm to/towards Yōʼāⱱ/(Joab) see/lo/see! sent to,you to=say come they(f) so,that_I_may_send ,you to/towards the=king to=say to/for=what come from,Geshur good to=me still I there and=now see face/surface_of the=king and=if there_is in,me guilt and,he,will_kill_me )
If it would be clearer in your language, you could translate this so that there is not a quotation within a quotation. Alternate translation: [Behold, I sent to you and told you to come here so that I could send you to the king and ask him on my behalf why I had come from Geshur, since it seemed as if it would be better for me if I were still there]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion
לָ֤מָּה בָּ֨אתִי֙ מִגְּשׁ֔וּר
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said ʼAⱱīshālōm to/towards Yōʼāⱱ/(Joab) see/lo/see! sent to,you to=say come they(f) so,that_I_may_send ,you to/towards the=king to=say to/for=what come from,Geshur good to=me still I there and=now see face/surface_of the=king and=if there_is in,me guilt and,he,will_kill_me )
Absalom is using the question form for emphasis. If a speaker of your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: [I should not have come from Geshur!]
Note 4 topic: grammar-connect-words-phrases
וְעַתָּ֗ה
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said ʼAⱱīshālōm to/towards Yōʼāⱱ/(Joab) see/lo/see! sent to,you to=say come they(f) so,that_I_may_send ,you to/towards the=king to=say to/for=what come from,Geshur good to=me still I there and=now see face/surface_of the=king and=if there_is in,me guilt and,he,will_kill_me )
And now was an expression that speakers in this culture commonly used to introduce their main topic. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation. You could also use plain language. See how you translated the same expression in [2:6](../02/06.md).
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
אֶרְאֶה֙ פְּנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ
see (Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said ʼAⱱīshālōm to/towards Yōʼāⱱ/(Joab) see/lo/see! sent to,you to=say come they(f) so,that_I_may_send ,you to/towards the=king to=say to/for=what come from,Geshur good to=me still I there and=now see face/surface_of the=king and=if there_is in,me guilt and,he,will_kill_me )
Here, the face of the king represents “the presence of the king.” If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [arrange for me to come into the presence of the king]
Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
וְאִם־יֶשׁ־בִּ֥י עָוֺ֖ן
and=if there_is (Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said ʼAⱱīshālōm to/towards Yōʼāⱱ/(Joab) see/lo/see! sent to,you to=say come they(f) so,that_I_may_send ,you to/towards the=king to=say to/for=what come from,Geshur good to=me still I there and=now see face/surface_of the=king and=if there_is in,me guilt and,he,will_kill_me )
Absalom is speaking as if iniquity were an object that was actually in him. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [but if I am guilty of a serious crime]

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
