The woman is speaking as if the matter of Absalom’s banishment were a living thing that had a face that Joab could turn, in other words, as if Joab could get it to head in a different direction. This could mean: (1) that Joab wanted to change the situation so that Absalom could come home. Alternate translation: [In order to help Absalom come home from banishment, your servant Joab sent me to speak with you]; (2) that Joab told the woman to pretend to be a widow in order to make her appeal to David for Absalom appear to be an appeal for a son of her own. Alternate translation: [So that you would not realize I was talking about Absalom, your servant Joab told me to pretend I was talking about my own situation]

The woman is making an overstatement for emphasis. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a different way to express the emphasis. She could be saying: (1) that David knows what is happening in the land, that is, in the kingdom of Israel. Alternate translation: [since you clearly know what is happening in the land]; (2) that David knows everything that is happening on earth. Alternate translation: [as if you knew everything that was happening on earth]
