TSNTyndale Study Notes:

6:4-6 Israel’s history as God’s people, originated at the Exodus, reached a climax when God chose David to be king and Jerusalem to be his capital. Both the city and the dynasty were aspects of God’s promise to David (see 1 Chr 28:4; cp. 2 Sam 7:8-17; Ps 2:6-7).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) in order for my name to be there

(Some words not found in UHB: from/more_than the=day which/who brought_~_out DOM people,my of,land Miʦrayim/(Egypt) not chosen in/on/at/with,city from=all tribes Yisrael to,build house to=be name,my there and=not chosen in/on/at/with,man to=be leader on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in people,my Yisrael )

Here the metonym “my name” represents Yahweh’s reputation, and his name being there represents people recognizing his greatness and worshiping him there. Alternate translation: “for people to worship me there”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) to be prince over my people Israel

(Some words not found in UHB: from/more_than the=day which/who brought_~_out DOM people,my of,land Miʦrayim/(Egypt) not chosen in/on/at/with,city from=all tribes Yisrael to,build house to=be name,my there and=not chosen in/on/at/with,man to=be leader on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in people,my Yisrael )

Being “prince over people” represents ruling them. Alternate translation: “to rule my people Israel”
