32.42 Sagittas. Dæmones, de quibus ait Job: Sagittæ Domini in me sunt Job, 6., quasi tantam exercebo vindictam, quæ dæmonibus quoque posset sufficere.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

32:42 The phrase arrows drunk with blood combines personification and hyperbole to show the extent of the carnage that will result from God’s judgment of the nations.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

General Information:

Moses speaks a poetic song to the people of Israel.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword will devour flesh with the blood

(Some words not found in UHB: make_~_drunk arrows,my with,blood and,sword,my you(ms)_will_eat flesh/meat with,blood slain and,captives from,long-haired leaders enemy )

Yahweh speaks of arrows as if they were people to whom he could give alcohol and make them drunk, and of a sword as if it were a person who was so hungry that he would eat an animal before draining the blood out. These metaphors are metonyms for a soldier using arrows and a sword to kill many enemies. This in turn is a metaphor for Yahweh killing his enemies in war. (See also: figs-metonymy and figs-personification)

(Occurrence 0) from the heads of the leaders of the enemy

(Some words not found in UHB: make_~_drunk arrows,my with,blood and,sword,my you(ms)_will_eat flesh/meat with,blood slain and,captives from,long-haired leaders enemy )

A possible meaning is “from the long-haired heads of the enemy.”
