11:30 The conquest of Jericho (Josh 5:13–6:27) offers another example of great faith, as the people acted in obedience to God’s unusual instructions.
Here the author refers to a story about a city named Jericho. This city was the first city that the Israelites attacked when they entered the land that God had promised to give to them. God told them to march around the city once a day for six days and then to march around the city seven times on the seventh day. When the Israelites completed their last march around the city and shouted loudly, the walls fell down and the Israelites conquered the city. You can read about Jericho in Joshua 6:1–25. You might want to include this information in a footnote.

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. The author uses the passive form here to focus on the walls that are encircled rather than on the people doing the encircling. If you must state who did the action, the author implies that “the Israelites” did it. Alternate translation: “the Israelites having encircled them”
