Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

OET (OET-RV) No one on the earth will remember them any more,
⇔ ≈and no streets will be named after them.[fn]
18:17 That was a paraphrase (and probably an anachronism) that we couldn’t resist (and will probably delete again). It’s really something more like ‘no one will mention their names on the streets’.
OET-LV Memory_him it_perishes from [the]_earth and_not a_name to_him/it on [the]_surface of_[the]_street.
UHB זִֽכְרוֹ־אָ֭בַד מִנִּי־אָ֑רֶץ וְלֹא־שֵׁ֥ם ל֝֗וֹ עַל־פְּנֵי־חֽוּץ׃ ‡
(zikrō-ʼāⱱad minnī-ʼāreʦ vəloʼ-shēm lō ˊal-pənēy-ḩūʦ.)
Key: khaki:verbs, red:negative.
Note: Automatic aligning of the OET-RV to the LV is done by some temporary software, hence the OET-RV alignments are incomplete (and may occasionally be wrong).

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / possession
זִֽכְרוֹ

Bildad is using this possessive form to mean other people’s memory of the wicked person, not the wicked person’s memory of things. Alternate translation: “The memory of him”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
מִנִּי־אָ֑רֶץ

Here, name represents a person’s fame and reputation. Alternate translation: “reputation”
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
עַל־פְּנֵי־חֽוּץ

Bildad is speaking as if the surface of the land or ground were literally its face. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “upon the surface of the land”
