Joash is using the silver passing over a man as a common expression of his culture to mean the money that each Israelite male would pay during a census for the maintenance of the temple. (This was commanded in the law of Moses in [Exodus 30:11–16](../../exo/30/11.md) and originally supported the worship in the tabernacle.) If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly.
