If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [And because the people were distressed, a man of Israel saw that it was narrow to him]

וְאִ֨ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל רָאוּ֙ כִּ֣י צַר־ל֔וֹ

The author is not referring to a specific man of Israel. He means in general the Israelite men who were fighting in Saul’s army. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use an expression that would be more natural in your language. Alternate translation: [And the men of Israel saw that it was narrow to them]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
צַר־ל֔וֹ
in_distress to=him/it
The author is using it was narrow to him as a common expression of his culture to mean “he was in a dangerous situation.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [he was in a tight spot] or [he was in very dangerous circumstances]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
נִגַּ֖שׂ הָעָ֑ם
(Some words not found in UHB: and,everyone_of Yisrael saw that/for/because/then/when in_distress to=him/it that/for/because/then/when hard_pressed the,people and,they_hid_themselves the,people in,caves and,in,thickets and,in,cliffs and,in_(the),chambers and,in,cisterns )
The expression were distressed is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [the Philistines were distressing the people]
OET (OET-LV) And_everyone_of Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) they_saw if/because_that it_was_distress to_him/it if/because it_was_hard_pressed the_people and_they_hid_themselves the_people in_caves and_in_thickets and_in_cliffs and_in_(the)_chambers and_in_cisterns.
OET (OET-RV) But the Israeli warriors were very anxious because their troops were so outnumbered, so they hid in caves and thickets, among rocks, and in tombs and wells.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
