OET (OET-LV)And_he/it_said to all Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) you_all you_all_will_be on_side one and_I and_Yōnātān son_my we_will_be on_side one and_they_said the_people to Shāʼūl the_good in/on/at/with_eyes_you do.

OET (OET-RV)“You all can be on one side, and my son Jonathan and I will be on the other side,” Sha’ul said.
¶ “Do whatever feels right to you,” the people replied.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / hyperbole

(Occurrence 0) Then he said to all Israel

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said to/towards all/each/any/every Yisrael you_all be on,side one(ms) and,I and,Jonathan son,my be on,side one(ms) and=they_said the,people to/towards Shāʼūl the,good in/on/at/with,eyes,you make/work/create/deal )

This was a generalization since only the Israelite soldiers were present. Alternate translation: “Then he said to the Israelite soldiers who were there”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

14:1-52 Saul’s behavior in this chapter further justifies his dismissal as king (13:8-14; see also ch 15). Saul was alienated from both Samuel and his heroic son Jonathan. Chapter 14 anticipates the significant role that Jonathan played in the transition from Saul’s kingship to David’s.
