The word that the ULT translates as dreaded here is a stronger term than the one it translates as “was afraid” in [18:12](../18/12.md). The term “face” seems to represent David himself in [18:12](../18/12.md), but the term face here seems to refer more directly to David’s presence. The UST models one way to show this intensification of Saul’s feeling toward David.
