TSNTyndale Study Notes:

9:32-43 These verses describe Peter’s itinerant ministry in Judea, particularly along the seacoast. Exercising spiritual powers given to him by God, Peter performed wonderful works, including the healing of Aeneas and the raising of Dorcas. Jesus had promised such signs and wonders to the disciples (John 14:12).
• Typical of Luke’s writing, the healing of a man is matched by the healing of a woman (see Luke 13:10-17; 14:1-6). The people in the area were deeply moved by these miracles, and many were drawn into the faith (Acts 9:35, 42).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

ἀναστὰς & Πέτρος συνῆλθεν αὐτοῖς

/having/_risen_up & Peter came_together ˱with˲_them

Here the word arising means that Peter took action in order to be able to make the trip with these men, not that he got up from a sitting or lying position. Alternate translation: “Peter quickly prepared and went with them”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / youdual

αὐτοῖς

˱with˲_them

This first instance of them in the verse would be dual if your language uses that form, since it applies to two men. The second instance of them would be plural, since it refers to the group of widows.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / hyperbole

πᾶσαι αἱ χῆραι

all the widows

Luke says all as a generalization for emphasis. Alternate translation: “a large crowd of widows”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

χιτῶνας καὶ ἱμάτια, ὅσα ἐποίει μετ’ αὐτῶν οὖσα ἡ Δορκάς

/the/_tunics and clothes as_much_as /was/_making with them being ¬the Dorcas

It may be helpful to say explicitly that Dorcas made these coats and garments to help these widows because they were poor and could not afford clothes. It may be helpful to begin a new sentence here. Alternate translation: “coats and garments. When she was alive, Dorcas used to make many of these to help the widows because they were poor and could not afford clothes”

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / euphemism

μετ’ αὐτῶν οὖσα

with them being

This may be a delicate way of speaking about Dorcas’s death, rather than saying “before she died.” Alternate translation, as in UST: “while she was still alive”
