Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

20.14 Non mœchaberis. ISID.

In eo because that dictum it_is, non mœchaberis, poterat and illud intelligi; nisi forte in illis duobus præceptis not/no mœchandi, and not/no furandi, herself opera notata sint, in his vero extremis concupiscentia ipsa: which only differunt, as aliquando mœchetur who not/no concupiscit wife proximi, when/with aliqua other causa ipsi miscetur. Aliquando vero concupiscat, but_not to_him misceatur pœnam timens: and this fortasse lex ostendere voluit, that utraque sins are. ID. TSNTyndale Study Notes:

20:14 adultery: Here this term represents all sexual sins, among which adultery most clearly indicates breaking faith. Adulterers satisfy their sexual desires as they please, and they break faith with their spouse in so doing. Jesus expanded on this command in Matt 5:27-30.
