BrTrAnd the prophet that turned him back out of the way heard, and said, This is the man of God who rebelled against the word of the Lord.[fn]


13:26 Vat. has no verse 27. Alex. reads as follows.

ULTAnd the prophet who had brought him back from the road heard, and he said, “He is the man of God who disobeyed the mouth of Yahweh. And Yahweh gave him to the lion, and it tore him apart and killed him, according to the word of Yahweh that he spoke to him.”

USTWhen the old man who had brought the prophet from Judah to his home heard what had happened, he said, “The man whom the lion killed is the prophet who disobeyed the instructions that Yahweh gave him. Yahweh allowed the lion to attack him and kill him. That is exactly what Yahweh said would happen in the message he gave me for him!”

BSBWhen the prophet who had brought him back from his journey heard this, he said, “It [is] the man of God who disobeyed the command of the LORD. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, and it has mauled him and killed him, according to the word that the LORD had spoken to him.”

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

13:23-26 The donkey did not run away and the lion did not eat the man’s body, a supernatural event. The old prophet immediately understood that God had clearly fulfilled his word (13:21-22) by judging disobedience.
