ULTAnd the king said, “Does peace belong to the young man, to Absalom?”
¶  And Ahimaaz said, “I saw a great commotion when Joab sent the servant of the king and your servant, but I do not know what.”

USTThe king said, “Is the young man Absalom safe?” Ahimaaz did not want to answer that question, so he replied, “When Joab sent me, I saw that there was a lot of confusion, but I do not know what it was about.”

18:28-29 Everything is all right! (Hebrew shalom): David then asked, “Is it shalom with the young Ab-shalom?” (What about young Absalom? . . . Is he all right?). Even though Absalom was David’s rival, he was also David’s son. David was more concerned about his son’s fate than the well-being of his fighting servants (19:5-6).
