ULT But now, arise, go out and speak to the heart of your servants, for I swear by Yahweh, if you are not going out, if a man will lodge with you tonight, and this, will be more trouble for you than all of the trouble that has come on you from your youth until now.”

UST So now you must go out and thank your soldiers for what they did. I swear by Yahweh that if you do not do that, they will all have abandoned you by tomorrow morning. Then you will be in more trouble than you have already had in your entire life!”

Following the custom of his culture, Joab is swearing an oath and guaranteeing it by something that he holds sacred (I swear by Yahweh). He is then stating the first part of a condition (“if”) but not the second part (“then”). Use a natural way in your language to express an oath. In a context such as this, it may be natural to express the first part of the condition as a negative statement. See how you translated the similar expression in [14:19](../14/19.md).
