15:10 OSHB note: BHS has been faithful to the Leningrad Codex where there might be a question of the validity of the form and we keep the same form as BHS.

OET (OET-RV)So Abram brought all those to Yahweh, and then he cut the animals (but not the birds) in half down the middle and laid the halves opposite to each other.

uW Translation Notes:

וַיִּֽקַּֽח

and=he/it_took

Alternate translation: [Obeying Yahweh, during the following day Abram gathered]

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

ל֣וֹ אֶת־כָּל־אֵ֗לֶּה

to=him/it DOM all/each/any/every these

Some languages need to make explicit that Abram brought the animals and killed the animals first, before cutting them in half. Do what is best in your language. Alternate translation: [all those animals to him and killed them]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

בַּתָּ֔וֶךְ

in/on/at/with,half

The author assumes that readers will know that Abram probably cut the animals down the middle lengthwise, which means that each half had one front leg and one back leg. You could say that explicitly if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [into two parts lengthwise]

Note 3 topic: grammar-connect-logic-contrast

וְאֶת־הַצִפֹּ֖ר לֹ֥א בָתָֽר

and=DOM the,birds not cut

The author uses the word but here to indicate a contrast between what he did to the bodies of the animals and what he did to the bodies of the birds. In your translation, indicate this contrast in a way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [but he did not divide the bodies of the birds in two] or [except for the birds, which he did not cut in two]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

15:10 Obeying God’s instructions, Abram gathered three herd animals for the ceremony and cut them in half. Cutting the animals symbolized the oath, indicating that the covenant maker staked his own life on his word (Jer 34:18).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
