OET (OET-LV)And_he/it_said to_him/it bring to_me a_heifer three_years_old and_female_goat three_years_old and_ram three_years_old and_turtledove and_young_pigeon.

OET (OET-RV)“Bring me a three-year-old heifer,” Yahweh replied, “and a three-year-old she-goat and a three-year-old ram and a turtledove and a young pigeon.”

uW Translation Notes:

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֗יו

and=he/it_said to=him/it

Alternate translation: “Yahweh said to him”

עֶגְלָ֣ה מְשֻׁלֶּ֔שֶׁת

heifer three-year-old

Alternate translation: “a cow that is three years old,”

וְעֵ֥ז מְשֻׁלֶּ֖שֶׁת

and,female_goat three_years_old

Alternate translation: “a female goat that is three years old,”

וְאַ֣יִל מְשֻׁלָּ֑שׁ

and,ram three-year-old

For some languages it may be more natural to shorten this list of animals and say, “Bring to me a young cow, a female goat, and a male sheep, each of which is three years old,” Do what is best in your language. Alternate translation: “and a male sheep that is three years old”

Note 1 topic: translate-unknown

וְתֹ֖ר וְגוֹזָֽל

and,turtledove and,young_pigeon

Turtledoves and pigeons are common, closely related birds that look similar and are often gray or grayish brown in color. One of the main differences is that turtledoves are smaller than pigeons. Compare how you translated “dove” in Gen 8:8. Alternate translation: “as well as a turtledove and a young pigeon.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

15:1-21 The Lord made a formal covenant with Abram, solemnly confirming the promises made at his call (12:1-3). There would be a long period of slavery for Abram’s descendants before these promises would be completely fulfilled.
