OET (OET-RV) Abram believed in Yahweh, and Yahweh considered that faith of Abram’s as an act of obedience.
Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns
וְהֶאֱמִ֖ן
and,believed
Many translations omit the conjunction And here. Do what is best in your language. Also, make sure it is clear in your translation that Abram is the subject here, not Yahweh (who was the last subject in verse 5). Alternate translation: “He believed Yahweh,” or “He believed what Yahweh said,”
Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns
וַיַּחְשְׁבֶ֥הָ לּ֖וֹ צְדָקָֽה
and=he/it_considered=her/it for=him/it righteousness
Notice that Yahweh is now the subject again. Make sure it is clear in your translation who is speaking to whom here and throughout this section. Alternate translation: “and so Yahweh credited it to him as righteousness.” or “and because of that, Yahweh reckoned Abram to be righteous.” or “so Yahweh considered Abram to have a right relationship with him.”
15:6 And Abram believed: God made his covenant with a believer; the statement does not indicate when Abram came to faith. The Hebrew text does not link Abram’s belief with the promise of the stars; it just says parenthetically that Abram believed God. Abram already had faith; his departure from Ur was his first great act that demonstrated it (see Heb 11:8-10).
• God counted him as righteous because of his faith: This central statement about Abram’s saving faith is quoted three times in the New Testament (Rom 4:3; Gal 3:6; Jas 2:23) to support the doctrine of righteousness before God by faith (see also Rom 4:22-23).
OET (OET-RV) Abram believed in Yahweh, and Yahweh considered that faith of Abram’s as an act of obedience.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
