Isa 50 V1 V2 V3 V4 V5 V6 V8 V9 V10 V11
OET (OET-LV) And_the_of_master YHWH he_helps to_me therefore yes/correct/thus/so not I_have_been_humiliated therefore yes/correct/thus/so I_have_made face_of_my like_flint and_I_have_perceived if/because_that not I_will_be_put_to_shame.
OET (OET-RV) but my master Yahweh will help me.
⇔
Therefore I’m not humiliated,
⇔
so I’ve made my face look determined like flint
⇔
because I know that I won’t be ashamed.
Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result
וַאדֹנָ֤י יְהוִה֙ יַֽעֲזָר־לִ֔י עַל־כֵּ֖ן לֹ֣א נִכְלָ֑מְתִּי
and,[the]_of,Lord GOD helps to=me on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in yes/correct/thus/so not disgraced
The term translated as therefore indicates that what follows is a result of what came before. Use a connector in your language that makes this clear. Alternate translation: [But because the Lord Yahweh helps me, I am not disgraced] or [But the Lord Yahweh helps me, and for that reason, I am not disgraced]
Note 2 topic: grammar-connect-logic-contrast
וַאדֹנָ֤י יְהוִה֙ יַֽעֲזָר־לִ֔י
and,[the]_of,Lord GOD helps to=me
Isaiah uses the word But here to indicate a contrast between the disgraceful treatment he described in the previous verse and the help that Yahweh gives him. In your translation, indicate this contrast in a way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [Yet the Lord Yahweh helps me]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
לֹ֣א נִכְלָ֑מְתִּי
not disgraced
The expression I am not disgraced is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [no one disgraces me]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / simile
שַׂ֤מְתִּי פָנַי֙ כַּֽחַלָּמִ֔ישׁ
(Some words not found in UHB: and,[the]_of,Lord GOD helps to=me on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in yes/correct/thus/so not disgraced on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in yes/correct/thus/so set face_of,my like,flint and,I_have_perceived that/for/because/then/when not put_to_shame )
The point of this comparison is that just as flint is extremely hard and unyielding, so is Isaiah in his determination to do what Yahweh has commanded him, no matter the suffering it costs him. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this point explicitly. Alternate translation: [Therefore I made myself as hard as flint to endure what would happen to me]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
לֹ֥א אֵבֽוֹשׁ
not put_to_shame
If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of shame, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [I will not be ashamed]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
