Since the author lists Shammah the Hararite as one of the Three greatest warriors in 23:11–12, his name seems out of place in this list of the Thirty. Some interpreters suggest that the explanation is that the Jonathan mentioned in the previous verse was his son. Some versions accordingly read, at the end of the previous verse and the beginning of this one, “Jonathan the son of Shammah the Hararite.” The reading in 1 Chronicles 11:34 suggests this as a possible reading. If a translation of the Bible exists in your region, you may wish to use the reading that it uses. If a translation of the Bible does not exist in your region, you may wish to use the reading of the ULT.
