The first verse (24:23a) indicates that this section is an additional list of sayings of wise people. This list has been added to the preceding section (22:17–24:22). The sayings range from one to five verses. Each saying will be marked as a separate paragraph in the Notes. As in the English versions, the sayings in this section will not be numbered.
Three of the sayings (24:23b–25, 24:26, and 24:30–34) are general principles. They are not addressed specifically to the readers. See the notes on 10:2 for ways to translate this kind of proverb.
In the other two sayings (24:27 and 24:28–29), the author uses second person commands and pronouns (you(sing)). Unlike the preceding section, he does not use the phrase “my son” explicitly in these commands.

The first line of this saying (24:23b) criticizes any judge who shows favoritism in a court case. The next two verses indicate that the case involves someone who is guilty. Verse 24:24 describes the reactions of people to a judge who declares the guilty person to be innocent. Verse 24:25 describes the contrasting situation of a judge who does what is right and declares that the guilty person is guilty.
See the General Comment on 24:23b–25 after the note on 24:25 for a way to translate this saying as direct advice. Also see the third meaning line in the Display for each verse part in this saying.
Notice the parallel parts that are similar in meaning:

Both lines refer to a similar variety of good results in the lives of judges who convict guilty people.

but it will go well: In Hebrew, this phrase is literally “but/and it will be pleasant.” It refers to a good, successful, and prosperous life.
those who convict the guilty: In Hebrew, this phrase is literally “those who rebuke.” In this context, it probably refers to judges who convict a guilty person and/or sentence him to punishment.
Some other ways to translate this line are:
But life will be good/pleasant for those who declare that a guilty person must be punished.
But the outcome/result will be good for judges that convict a guilty person.
In some languages, it may be more natural to change the order of the two phrases. For example:
Judges who punish the guilty, however, will be prosperous (GNT)
But as for judges who convict a guilty person, they will be successful.
and rich blessing will come upon them.
They will be blessed in many ways.
Many/Various kinds of benefits will be theirs.
and you(sing) will enjoy many benefits/blessings.
and rich blessing will come upon them: In Hebrew, this clause is literally “and on them will come blessing of good.” This word order implies that only these judges, not others, will be blessed with good things.Fox (page 770) identifies “upon them” as a fronted (restrictive) prepositional phrase. He says that this construction “strongly suggests” a translation such as: “a blessing of good shall come only upon them.” For example:
Only judges who are like that will be truly blessed.
The phrase “blessing of good” means “blessing that consists of good.” It indicates that these judges will be blessed with prosperity and other good results.
The GNT specifies that they will “enjoy a good reputation.”UBS (page 532) understands the GNT to refer to “what people say about the good judge.” Fox (page 770) takes this line to mean that people will bless these judges “by wishing them good fortune.” Other scholars do not limit the “blessing” to people’s words. For example, Toy (page 452) says that the blessing “consists in good fortune.” Cohen (page 164) is similar. This translation gives an appropriate contrast to the words “curse” and “denounce” in 24:24b, but it also limits the meaning of “good.” If you translate this clause as the GNT has done, make sure that the parallel clause in 25:25a refers to other kinds of blessing.
This verse does not make the source of the blessing explicit. The preceding context (24:24b) may imply that other people “bless” good judges with prosperity and a good reputation. But the phrase upon them may imply that the blessing comes from (the LORD) above.Waltke (page 292) suggests the latter implication. Hubbard (page 380) says that the context favors honors or compliments that come from other people, but that “divine approval” is also implied. If possible, translate in a way that will allow readers to understand either source of blessing.
The writer intended this saying to be understood as advice that judges should follow. But he did not address judges directly. In some languages, it may be more natural to give advice using pronouns such as you(sing), you(plur), we(dual), or we(incl). For example:
23bIt is not good to take sides when you are the judge.
24Don’t tell the wicked that they are innocent; people will curse you, and nations will hate you.
25But things will go well if you punish the guilty, and you will receive rich blessings. (NCV)

Here, the writer refers to people experiencing a blessing as if it were a person who could come over those people. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “and they will experience a blessing of goodness”

Here, the writer is using the possessive form to describe a blessing that is characterized by goodness. If your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could use a different expression. Alternate translation: “a good blessing”
