Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed as a tool for Bible-translators and others doing comparisons of different translations—the older translations are further down the page (so you can read up from the bottom to trace the English translation history). The OET segments on this page are still early looks into the drafted texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible—please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / personification
וַתִּפְתַּ֤ח הָאָ֨רֶץ֙ אֶת־פִּ֔יהָ וַתִּבְלַ֥ע אֹתָ֖ם
and,it_opened the=earth/land DOM her/its=mouth and,it_swallowed DOM=them
The author is speaking of the earth as if it were a living thing that could open its mouth and swallow people. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. See how you translated the similar clause in [verse 30](../16/30.md). Alternate translation: [and a hole formed in the earth and engulfed them]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
וְאֶת־בָּתֵּיהֶ֑ם וְאֵ֤ת כָּל־הָאָדָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְקֹ֔רַח וְאֵ֖ת כָּל־הָרֲכֽוּשׁ
and=DOM households_of,their and=DOM all/each/any/every the=humankind which/who [belonged]_to,Korah and=DOM all/each/any/every the,property
Here, every man and all the property could refer to: (1) people and their property in addition to Dathan, Abiram, and their families. These people agreed with Korah, but they were not among the 250 men who offered incense at the sacred tent. Alternate translation: [and their houses, and in addition every man who was to Korah besides the 250 men and all their property] (2) Dathan, Abiram, and their families. The author is simply giving more information about them. Alternate translation: [and their houses, that is, every man who was to Korah and all their property]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
וְאֶת־בָּתֵּיהֶ֑ם
and=DOM households_of,their
Here, the author is speaking of the people and animals and objects that belonged to these men as if they were houses in which they lived. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [and their households]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
וְאֵ֤ת כָּל־הָאָדָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְקֹ֔רַח
and=DOM all/each/any/every the=humankind which/who [belonged]_to,Korah
The author is using who was to Korah as a common expression of the culture to mean “who had followed Korah” or “who had supported Korah.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [and every man who had followed Korah]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / gendernotations
וְאֵ֤ת כָּל־הָאָדָם֙
and=DOM all/each/any/every the=humankind
Here the masculine term man has a generic sense that includes both men and women. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use language in your translation that is clearly inclusive of both men and women. Alternate translation: [and every person]
