OET (OET-RV)Mosheh looked around to check that no one was watching, then he hit the Egyptian, killing him, then he hid his body in the sand.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / merism

וַיִּ֤פֶן כֹּה֙ וָכֹ֔ה

and,looked this_way and,that

These two opposite directions have the combined meaning of “everywhere.” If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: “He looked all around”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וַיַּךְ֙

and,struck

The context makes clear that Moses struck the Egyptian hard enough or repeatedly until Moses killed him. Consider using a word that indicates a deadly blow.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

2:1-25 Chapter 1 established the need for rescue; ch 2 describes the preparation of Moses, the rescuer. God used the destruction of the Hebrew boy babies to ensure that the rescuer would be trained (see study note on 2:10) for his task.
