Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. 7.16 Galgala. Hæc cecidit in sortem Judæ: et usque hodie ostenditur locus in secundo a Jericho milliario hominibus illius regionis venerandus.
7.16 Galgala. Galgala interpretatur volutatio or revelatio. Bene therefore a_prophet in Bethel and in Galgala, and Masphath yudicavit Isræl, and revertens in Ramatha in home his_own yudicavit there Isræl; and ædificavit there altare Master, exemplum tribuens yudicium esse faciendum in domo of_God, not/no indiscrete or malivola mente, but after/second that Scriptura revelaverit, and intentione good and amore fraterno, and so esse revertendum in Ramatha in home nostram, id it_is, to interna pectoris, as vacemus contemplationi, and in altari of_faith gratas hostias operis and veritatis offeramus.
7:16 Bethel and Mizpah were places of national assembly in the judges era (Judg 20:1, 18, 26; 21:1-2). Bethel’s significance went back to the days of Abraham (Gen 12:8; 13:3-4; 28:10-22; 35:1-15).
• Gilgal, located near Jericho, had been a sacred place since Joshua’s day (Josh 4:19-24; 5:2-10). From this circuit, Samuel influenced “all the people of Israel” (1 Sam 10:17).
